Postgraduate Studies

The Social Dimensions of Health Institute is actively involved in the training of postgraduate students at the Universities of St Andrews and Dundee. This includes general training for all students who are affiliated to the SDHI, as well as specific training courses associated with particular initiatives.  For feedback from a few SDHI postgraduate students please go to current students or past students

Affiliated Postgraduate Students

If you are a PhD or Masters student at the University of Dundee or St Andrews who is working on a health-related topic you are welcome to become an affiliate of the SDHI. Affiliation brings with it a series of benefits, not least of which is the opportunity to meet regularly with students and researchers interested in the social dimensions of health who are working in a variety of disciplinary contexts different to your own. More specifically, affiliated postgraduate students will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend an inter-disciplinary training weekend at the beginning of each academic year
  • Attend the SDHI colloquia series, which involves some of the most influential health researchers from the UK and abroad (see our events page for more information)
  • Attend SDHI inter-disciplinary health research conferences which will be held on an annual basis (see our events page for more information)
  • Receive information on health-related seminars held in all the departments in the Universities of Dundee and St Andrews
  • Receive regular email updates on health-related funding opportunities

Postgraduate Retreat 2016

SDHI is delighted to once again be hosting a 2-day retreat for postgraduate students and early career researchers engaged in applied health research from Monday 6th to Tuesday 7th June 2016.  The retreat will be held at Kindrogan Field Centre near Pitlochry and is open to all (health-related) researchers in the Universities of St Andrews and Dundee with a preference for those who self-define as ‘early-career’.  Accommodation and meals are included in the retreat fee.  To register your interest in attending the retreat please contact Rosanne Bell (r.c.bell @dundee.ac.uk).
